It is essential for women escaping domestic violence to create new healthy relationships. In addition to the professional staff at the Shelter, the women of Bat Melech-Miklat also need people to engage with them in day to day interaction.

Bat Melech-Miklat runs a dynamic partnership program, whereby every woman and child in our shelter is paired with a volunteer. The volunteer gives additional support to the women. For instance, volunteers often accompany their partners to court cases, giving them someone to sit with and get a cup of coffee with afterwards. Volunteers speak to their partner on the phone, whether it is for a quick chat or to give them a shoulder to cry on.

All volunteers are given training prior to joining the program so that they are equipped with the skills necessary to be a good ‘buddy.’ Bat Melech-Miklat staff members are always available to provide backup and guidance for the volunteers.
