Programs
and Therapies
Individual
Weekly Therapy Sessions:
Each girl meets weekly on an individual basis with her social worker
for therapy; girls who require more intensive therapy met up to three
times a week. These sessions are devoted to individual rehabilitation
programs, evaluating progress made, and working out any new or ongoing
issues. These sessions provided an opportunity to evaluate to the
progress or regression of each individual participant.
Group
Sessions: Social
workers lead group therapy sessions each week, allowing the residents
to learn from each other’s experiences and to offer
encouragement to their peers.
Communications
Workshop:
The girls study film making at the Ma’ale School of
Television, Film and the Arts Video Course-Media Communications. The
girls learn about cameras, sound and lighting, makeup, as well as how
to write screenplays, and the process of film editing. This course
serves as a creative outlet for all the girls as they produced a short
film. Providing the girls with technical film making skills gives them
an additional avenue for self-expression. Further, learning about and
using high tech equipment, and seeing a project grow from an idea into
a completed product gave their self-confidence an important boost.
Positive
Body Image Therapeutic Workshops:
Many of the girls at the hostel have suffered from sexual abuse and
experience a myriad of outcomes as a result: from low self-esteem, to
very poor body image, to eating disorders, and even to self-mutilation
behaviors. Our goal is to provide the girls a multi-disciplinary
approach including individual therapy, therapeutic workshops and
athletic activity to offer the tools and creative outlets to express
their self-image as individuals and women in a positive manner. The
various female teachers served as role models who embraced their own
femininity in positive ways.
Weekly
Movie Club: Nigunim
staff chooses suitable movies with family life and suitable healthy
relationships as major themes (including both comedies and dramas) in
addition to topical themes during the year based on the Jewish and
Israeli year cycle. Discussions with the counselors and Sheirut Leumi
(Voluntary National Service) follows the screenings.
Therapeutic
Horseback Riding:
Girls with severe Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) are
offered therapeutic riding. Learning to care for the horses and
acquiring the necessary skills for riding greatly contributed to their
organizational abilities and self-confidence.
Therapeutic
Dog:
The Hostel is maintaining a pet dog for use as pet therapy and
companionship for the girls. The girls find the dog a comfort in times
of stress and enjoy taking him for walks and sitting in the garden.
